Deception Pass, Washington State Park
Camping and Hiking trail
Deception Pass
Wilderness… this trip counts as my first ever camping trip. Second I think if you count my high school military “camp” training. That! My friend did not leave a good impression on me since mosquitoes were involved 30% of the time, 60% non-stop training exercise and the rest is pretty much craving for sleep. Lasting for 3 days. Yep, wilderness.
Trading the comforts of your warm bed to the semi-cushioned tent, preparing your mind for the campfire ghost stories ahead while shaking off the thought of tonight’s episode of Walking Dead will air in 15 min. Well, all in all, the moral of the story? Camping trips will make you realize and appreciate things you take for granted. Toning down the necessity of your fast-paced and electronic lifestyle to bare basics.

Kidding aside, I was hoping to see Navy personnel doing training exercise missions or U.S. Navy jets flyovers when we hiked from camp to Shoreline up to the Bluff. That was the few attractions one might see here I was told. Unfortunately, I did not see either one. The good thing is, we now have a reason to get those yearly Discovery Pass. We do need to take care of our State Parks. Every dollar counts, so donate. It is good to know that we are leaving our children’s children a well-maintained landmark with historical value. The New generation of children, in turn, will learn to appreciate their rich history and diverse culture.
If you ask me. Would I do it all over again? In a heartbeat! My late father once told me: “Enjoy the landscape and the greens around you because God does not create lands for nature to grow anymore”.
Enjoy the view and green scenery in the Northwest. Enjoy nature and all its wonders and enjoy John Elter’s photos.
